On Monday, Ford and GM announced they would work together on nine- and 10-speed transmissions, we found out how to outrun a dust storm in a Lexus LFA and legendary driver Stirling Moss made some interesting comments. The embargo on the Jaguar F-Type broke on Tuesday, we learned about a documentary on the Pebble Beach Road Races and Porsche showed off its 911 RSR for race duty. On Wednesday, pictures of the next Lamborghini Aventador slipped out on the Web, the Mercedes GLA concept was revealed and the Flat Rock, Mich.
The new Ford Edge (above) will arrive in the UK in 2015
The new Ford Edge – new to the UK, but already in Ford’s model range in the US – has been revealed as Ford’s big hope to cash in on the still growing obsession with SUVs of all shapes and sizes in the UK. A big brother to the new Fiesta-based EcoSport and the longstanding Ford Kuga, the new Ford Edge rides on underpinnings that started out as the new Mondeo (well, new to the UK when it finally arrives in the Autumn) and owes its looks, more or less, to the Ford Edge Concept we saw at the LA Auto Show last year. Just like the Edge Concept, the new Ford edge comes with a big statement grill and big alloys, LED lights all round and a choice of three trim levels - Trend, Sport and Titanium – with more than a fighting chance that Ford will add a Vignale version too.
Ken Block & Rob Dyrdek Driving & Drifting
The last report we did on Ken Block was after he delighted Top Gear’s James May with his antics in California, but now we have what can probably best be described as a comic teaser for what will be his next big video outing – Gymkhana 3.0. In this video – dubbed Gymkhana 2.1 – Ken Block gets a new sidekick – professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek – who takes to a ‘Mini-Me’ kart version of Ken’s WRX Subaru in a playful drifting and playing game. The video is full of amusing comparisons, but just in case you don’t get it’s supposed to be funny we get treated to the Benny Hill theme tune – you know, the one where Benny gets chased in quick-time by a bunch of be-stockinged lovelies.
